Blackberry Eating by Galway Kinnell

I like this poem because of its richness of language which he illustrates over blackberry eating. For example in the line 12 "which I squeeze, squinch open, and splurge well." This line displays the physicality of life with the participation of touching, speaking and hearing. and i think he really does it well. also i believe i can tell that he feels attraction to blackberries such as with taste touch and appearance.

  1. You're right about the experience of eating blackberries as a metaphor for making--and consuming--poetry; explore that angle more thoroughly. Note, too, some of the subtle ambiguities--the specific setting--a time of year just as the season is about to turn; the berries that are at once succulent, but cold, and black; there's a richness and resonance in the experience and the the language, as in the art of poetry
